Tiafoe had to work hard in his opening match, but I actually see that as a positive. He was tested, he had difficult moments, but he still found a way to recover and get the job done in three sets. That shows good mentality and match sharpness.
This season has been a much better one for Tiafoe. He looks more focused, more aggressive and more confident on court compared to last year. His record in 2026 has been strong and he is clearly trying to push himself back towards the top 20.
Pellegrino has done well to get this far, especially playing at home in Italy, but his run has also had some fortune. He has had injury issues recently and his form before Rome was not convincing. He also benefited from a retirement in the previous round, so this is a much bigger test for him.
